The Tokyo Stock Exchange is closed Monday, Oct. 8th for Health-Sports Day. U.S. exchanges are open Monday, Columbus Day, although it appears some banks may be closed.
The Bank of Japan is holding a policy rate decision meeting Wednesday to Thursday.
Sony Financial Holdings begins trading on the TSE on Thursday, the 11th.
October SQ is on Friday, the 12th.
A Nikkei Shimbun weekly outlook says stocks will likely climb higher (following the U.S. stock rally on Friday) on receding concerns over the health of the U.S. economy. [Alcoa (NYSE: AA) kicks off U.S. stocks Q3 earnings reporting season on Tuesday.] Overseas investors are finding Japan increasingly attractive, since it has lagged a broad Asia region rally. That said, there’s not much domestically that can push stocks higher. Japan stocks will mostly be influenced by trading in the U.S. and Asia. Smaller caps as well as financials are hot right now, as they have lagged the most since 2006.
