The Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 12.99 yen to 17,656.84. It seems domestic market participants were a bit skeptical of the post-Golden Week rally, but not enough to take profits en masse.
Decliners outpaced advancers 917 x 656 on the TOPIX 1st Section, with 157 unchanged. Less than half of the 33 sectors (14) posted gains.

The Dow industrials closed at a record high for the fifth straight trading session and have gained in 24 of the past 27 sessions, the longest stretch with just three down days since 1927.
